The Plan

Buxton
And
Lammas
Area
Youth was formed at a meeting in the Black Lion
on 28th January 1992. David Rust Andrews was
our original Chair-person and many of the
committee are originals and after many set-backs
and rejected plans and land purchases we now
have a superb 11 acre field and are very
determined to see this project to the end. The
Parish council has been extremely supportive and
the BALAY committee greatly appreciate all their
help for this much needed project.
The
idea of the hall is to offer the youths of
Buxton, Lammas and surrounding villages a place
of their own. The hall will comprise of a main
hall suitable for sports and disco's and other
functions, it will also have smaller halls
around it, each for Scouting and Guiding events
and Youth club drop in centre, storage for
equipment (tents, camping gear, boats etc.),
changing facilities for Youth football with
showers - Kitchens, Office facilities all to
suit both able and disabled alike, football
pitches, recreation area.
How
many times have one of you seen youngsters
messing about on the streets and said 'can't
they find something better to do' well, at
present in Buxton, NO THEY probably cannot. Give
them this hall and they will want to be involved
and so respect it and get the most out of it -
they want more of a drop in centre where they
can get refreshments and just chat. It is
important to the scouting groups as they do not
have a village meeting place, the guiding groups
are restricted by what they can do in the school
hall and when. Our fund-raising events are
always reduced by hire of venues- we will be
able to keep it running by using our own venue.
We
are committed to the hundreds of young people in
our villages who need somewhere of their own.
We are very lucky to have thriving Scout and
Guide groups and Youth Football Clubs, but we
want to offer so much more to all our young
people.
We now have charity status
which means we can apply for many grants and the
wheels are in motion to do this.
What is very clear is we cannot do this without
the villages support - remember that the youths
of today are tomorrow's world, so if you can
help or have any questions or suggestions please
don't hesitate to contact us. Can we appeal to
anyone who could find some time to help us - if
not as part of the committee then perhaps with
letter writing/publicity/artwork or anything
else - we are all in full time work with
families and time is of the essence so PLEASE
if you only can spare a few hours we would be
grateful.
